Developing Good Listening Skills in Young Children

Developing Good Listening Skills is one of the essential skills that young children must acquire. Listening is a building block of a promising future. A person with good listening skills can remember better, answer better, explain better. An active listener can narrate better comprehension in the classroom. Listing skills can help in various stages of life. Gaining listening skills overnight is not. Possible. It requires regular practice and encouragement.

Improving listening skills:

  • Narrating stories to children will develop their listening skills. In general, we focus on everything that we found interesting. Stories are something that generally everyone found interesting.
  • While saying anything to children, try not to repeat the sentence. When someone repeats sentences, then the listener will not focus at the first time.
  • Teachers and parents can teach children to be good listeners by becoming good listeners themselves. Parents and teachers have the first influence on kids.
  • Engage your child in conversation, and it will help in the improvement of their listening skills. The conversation is not something that children know by birth should be taught to them. Children cannot learn this skill using toys or gadgets. It is the parent’s responsibility to teach them how to communicate.
  • Parents have to teach active listing to their child for enhancement of listening skills. Active listening refers to listening with all senses. It includes making eye contact, using nonverbal communication, etc. Teach your child the difference between hearing and active listening. Listening to music will come under hearing while listening to someone who gives direction requires active listening.
  • Parents should teach their children to focus on the person who is saying something. For example, parents should teach children that when they say something, don’t interrupt, just listen.
  • Children gain information through their interaction with others. The more child listens to others, the more knowledge he/she will gain.

The disadvantages of Poor listening skill:

  • Children with poor listening skills found it challenging to discriminate between various sounds.
  • Listening skill is most important for having good communication, which further beneficial in many situations.
  • A good listener can work faster than a poor listener.
  • Poor listening skills can result in assumptions and misunderstanding.
  • Since the child starts developing, he starts using his listening skills he uses his skills to increase his vocabulary, grammar, and reading ability. With poor skills, he might struggle to pick up his mistakes during the conversation.

So here we got to know few points about listening skills. We got to know how important the good listening skill is is.

Good listening skills are not just about hearing and following directions. It’s more than this. Children have to try to be good listeners, and parents should teach them and encourage them.

A good listener is a good speaker.
