“I love reading. As they say, ‘If you want to be a great writer, you must be a great reader.'”. – Bonita asserts. 

A child prodigy once wrote her destiny with a broken pencil. In contrast, the others were busy erasing it, and her name is Bonita Treasure Murungi Arinaitwe, who has become a successful author at a very young age. At only 11 years of age, Bonita has written two books that have been approved by the National Curriculum Development Centre as readers for upper primary students in Uganda. Both books are fiction.

Bonita’s Love For Writing

The child prodigy, Bonita, is a 15-year-old author and Climate Change Advocate. She studied at Aga Khan Primary School in Kampala, and presently she is studying at Nabisunsa Girls School. Bonita loves writing and public speaking. The child author has written two books, Friends (2014) and The Brave Prince Michael (2015), published by Palm Publications in Kampala.

These books are available at all the leading bookshops in Uganda, and E-copies are available at Amazon.com. “I can write non-fiction books if I want, but for now, as I am still too young, I will continue with fiction. I only use my imagination to write about anything without going into much detail.” – the child author, Bonita says. 

Achievements of The Child Prodigy – Bonita Treasure Murungi Arinaitwe

Bonita has become Uganda’s youngest award-winning author. In June 2015, the child prodigy Bonita was invited to speak at Ambrosoli International school under its mentorship program.

She talked about the need for young people to explore their talents and write their books if they love writing. She was also invited to speak at the Authors Forum, an event organized by the World of Inspiration at the Uganda National Theatre in Kampala.

Bonita’s book “Friends” won her the 2015 Fiction Writer’s Award to recognize her incredible writing ability during an event to mark the International Day of Writers known as the World Book. The caption of a post on Bonita’s Facebook page says,” The future belongs to the young people today! Children need a safe environment to grow and become future leaders. Let’s protect the environment and ensure young people like Bonita can have a safe environment to pass to the generations following the legacies they have set today!”.

The child author, Bonita, has been an inspiration to other young people as she has become a guest speaker at many significant literary events at such a young age. She wants to start a writers club in her school to help other young people write their books. Bonita motivates all the young people to explore their talents as much as they can.

She teaches us that everything is possible if one is ready to work hard. The child prodigy, Bonita, is undoubtedly going to have a very bright future.
