Gordey Kolesov the 12-year-old Who Is A Top-Ranked Chess Player

At the age when most kids are busy playing video games on mobiles, the young boy Gordey is busy exploring his passion. Gordey Kolesov is a multi-talented Russsian boy who is the winner of a Talent show in China. He is a winner of several chess competitions and speaks five languages at such a young age. Krishna Ilyumzhinov, the President of the International Chess Federation (FIDE), called Gordey “the little Buddha of the chess world.

Gordey Kolesov‘s Interest in Chess

Gordey was born on August 18, 2008, in Moscow, Russia. His full name is Kolesov Gordie Evgen Evich. When he was 2-months-old, his parents took him to Guangzhou, where his father, Evgeny Kolesov, ran Optim Consult. His chess interest began when he joined an externship at the secondary school with in-depth studies in a foreign language (English) in Beijing, China.

In January 2015, Gordey started his formal chess training under the supervision of Andrey Obodchuk. He took part in several chess qualification tournaments. In April, he won the qualification in Shenzhen and earned the top rank. The young champion received his champion’s cup from Ye Jiangchuan

Achievements of The Child Prodigy | Gordey Kolesov

Gordey first debuted on TV in April 2014, in Alexey Lkov’sLysenkov’s show titled “Be your Own Director.” In January 2015, Grodey took part in Talent Show on Chinese Central television, CCTV -1, and won it. After winning the Talent Show, little Gordey went to a closed privileged school for free training in the megalopolis of Guangzhou, which has a population of 15 million. In February 2015, he won a silver medal for a drawing in the Russian – Chinese children’s and creative youth contest entitled “China to Russia. Bridges of friendship.”

He also won the Audience Choice Award in the same month at the first Chinese calligraphy Hard Pen Contest. The prize was awarded by SCO General Secretary Dmitry Mezentsev, who was happy about the child prodigy’s achievements. In June 2015, Gordey amazed the judges of the Talent Show Gala Concert on CCTV – 1 by his performance. The media called Gordey a child prodigy.

Gordey’s father told NTV in an interview, “Gordey is just a child that is loved, disciplined, and enjoys studying.” Students commonly watch his videos at the Military Translators Institution under the Russian Federation Ministry of Defense and future diplomats from MGIMO. Videos of the young boy are very famous on the internet.

The Global Child Prodigy Awards is the first and only organization to recognize talents from various countries and backgrounds, having extreme competency in their field of interest such as painting, modelling, writing, entrepreneurship, martial art, music, social work, etc.

One of the most outstanding achievements of Gordey Kolesov is that he received the Global Child Prodigy award in January 2020 for sports. His name was also among the top 100 prodigies of the year.

Gordey is an inspiration for all the young generation because he works hard to explore his talent. Everyone has talent, but the difference is all about exploring it more or less. A Merited Artist of Russia, Mikhail Efermov, writes about Gordey – “A six-year-old Russian Gordey Kolesov won the talent show which aired on Central Chinese television. Gordey knows five languages,is a top-ranked chess player and a member of a Russian national team in this sport. Gordey, you are our future, the entire country is watching you!”
