Nimna means ‘Never Ending’, and just like her name, Nimna Hiranya is a 14-year-old girl whose skills are never-ending. She is a mathematics prodigy from Colombo, Sri Lanka. She came into prominence after appearing on Sri Lanka’s Got Talent where she amazed everyone through her mental math skills. Although she was not the winner, this child prodigy got lots of love from the audience there. Nimna became an internet sensation at that time, and her videos got millions of views.
In a candid talk with Global Child Prodigy, Nimna talks about how she got interested in mathematics.
Nimna joined a Vedic mathematics class when she was 7-years-old. She started doing meditation along with her learning. Nimna used to love mathematics a lot. Therefore, she worked hard to improve her mental math skills with various exercises. She was learning from a teacher who used to teach with fun & joy always. It was also a reason that Nimna enjoyed her learning process. It has been six years since she began loving math & her determination towards this is continuously increasing.
Nimna says that being relaxed is the one & only secret behind her success. She follows meditation and believes in being relaxed. It is because having a calm mind is one of the most important things to solve mental maths. She says that doing meditation and practising consistently are the keys to success.
In ordinary mathematics, people learn addition, multiplication, subtraction, BODMAS, etc. But in Vedic or mental maths, we have to calculate things by imagining them in our brain. Vedic mathematics is a method of doing math visually.
Nimna told us that she loves astronomy too. It is because she loves mathematics. Another reason is that her Vedic math teacher is interested in astronomy. So, she used to tell Nimna about it & Nimna found all these things exciting. Her teacher asked her to participate in a workshop. In that workshop, Nimna got to know about galaxies, the universe, telescopes, etc. She loved all the concepts and things she came to know.
In this interview, Nimna told us that she aims to be a good person. Other than that, her goal is to serve her country at best. Moreover, Nimna wants to become an astronomer, a marine biologist, and also a businesswoman. She doesn’t know exactly what she is going to choose in her future, but she believes that she will achieve her ambitions.
The Global Child Prodigy is the first organization in the world to recognize the young talents from different countries and backgrounds. The GCP Awards celebrates children having extreme competency in various fields such as painting, modeling, writing, entrepreneurship, intelligence, etc.
