Ravi Kumar Dahiya Wins India’s Second Silver Medal in Wrestling at the Tokyo Olympics

“The five S’s of sports training are: strength, stamina, speed, skill and spirit: but the greatest of these is spirit.”

– Ken Doherty

Ravi Kumar Dahiya was born in 1997 in Haryana, India, and is a professional freestyle wrestler. He began wrestling at the young age of 10 and began training seriously after two years. He belongs to a low-income family, and his father is a small farmer. The staunch support of his parents, who used to drive several kilometers for his training, allowed him to pursue a career in sports.

International career

Dahiya won the silver medal at the 2015 Junior World Championships in the 55kg category. Even though an injury kept him from competing for over a year, he made a quick comeback and won a silver medal at the 2018 under-23 Wrestling Championships. In his World Championship debut in 2019, he won a bronze medal and qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

He is also a two-time winner of the Asian Championships, says Wikipedia
