Jorge Cori: A Former Chess Prodigy Who Has Inspired The Youth

Jorge Moises Cori Tello is a Peruvian Chess prodigy. He is No. 1 among Under-18 players in the Americas No. 3 in Peru and No. 8 among all Under-18 players in the world. His sister is Deysi Estela Cori Tello who is a Woman Grandmaster. He won the Fide Master title in 2004 when he was just 9 years old. Cori became grandmaster when he was 14 years old in October 2009.

Chess Career

Cori graduated from the first joint section 10 of the pan American Youth chess festival in 2004 and as a result, he was awarded the title of FIDE master. After that, he won the gold medal at the pan American youth chess festival in various age categories: up to 10 2005 12 2006, at the age of 14 in 2008, and 18 in 2009. Corey also won the gold medal at the youth world chess championship in the category up to 14 in 2009 and 16 in 2011.

In October 2007, Cori competed for the first time in the championship of the Continental U.S., where it reached the 20-game norm for the title of international master. In 2008 he also won the section before 13 world Championships, 4 Schools, and a bronze medal in the Pan American championship at 20. This year he achieved his final norm necessary for the international master in 11- the open Malaga.

Jorge Cori has reached a 20-game on the title of grandmaster in 2009 the American continental championship and earned its final rule in October 2009. He qualified for the title of grandmaster in January 2010, at the age of 14 years, 5 months, and 15 days when it crossed the 2500 Elo rating mark in the 3rd josé Marca memorial opened in Lima. In 2012, Jorge Cori won a bronze medal in the under 18 division at the youth world Championships in Maribor, Slovenia

Cori finished tied for third the fourth on a tie-break in the championship of the Continental us and in the end, he qualified for the world chess championship 2013. In July 2013, he won the 18th Balaguer open. The following month he competed at the World Cup in Tromso, Norway, by drawing two classic games in the game against Teimour Radjabov. Corey won the first rapid game but lost the second.

Later in the same month, in August 2013, he took second place in the open de Sants, Hostafrancs & La Bordetella in Barcelona, Baskaran for a long time. In September 2013, Cori put on 3rd–4th in the world championship among juniors. He tied for first place, took third place on countback, in 3rd Panama.

In July 2014, he tied for first in Benasque open, ranking second on countback. Later that month, he took second place in the 5th Latin American championship in Linares, jaén, Spain.

In April 2015, Cori won the 6th Latin Chess Cup in Vicente Lopez, Argentina, pushing Axel Bachmann in a tie-break. In May 2015, the first place in the zonal championship 2.4 qualifyings for the world chess Cup 2015. Later in the same month, he took third place in the 10th American continental championship in Montevideo. In October 2018, Cori was the best player in the 43rd Chess Olympiad, the event in Batumi, Georgia. His score was 7½ points out of 8 points, seven wins, and one draw with a rating performance of 2925.
