“What people see is who crosses the finish line first. But for me it’s like I’m always becoming better, always running faster times. Always do better, that is the thing I value the most.”
– Karsten Warholm
25-year-old Karsten Warholm is a Norwegian athlete who competes in sprints and hurdles. He began running at the age of 8 after joining some of his friends in small races around the town.
In March 2013, Warholm won eight gold medals in the Norwegian Youth Indoor Championships. That same year, he won gold at the World Youth Championships in the boys’ octathlon. His next big win was at the 2015 European Junior Championship, where he won silver medals in the 400m race and the decathlon.
In 2017, he won a silver in the 400m race and gold in the 400m hurdles at the European under-23 Championships. In the same year, he won the World Championships in the hurdles. Thus, realizing his obvious potential in the 400m hurdles over sprints, Warholm and his coach decided to switch his specialty to the 400m hurdles races, says the IOC.
He placed 3rd at the 2018 Continental Cup and won the European Championships. In 2019 won the European Indoor Championships and his second World Championships at the young age of 24.
According to World Athletics, Warholm is currently ranked World No.1 in men’s 400m hurdles.
Karsten Warholm won the men’s 400m hurdles in a new world record at the Tokyo Olympics. He broke his own world record by a spectacular, unprecedented margin of 1.6% decrease.
A man of excellent skill and talent, Karsten Warholm’s golden victory is a testament to his hard work, dedication, and perseverance in his sport. His trailblazing journey is an inspiration to a new generation of athletes across the globe.
