“Age is no barrier. It’s a limitation you put on your mind.” – Jackie Joyner-Kersee
Stuck amidst this lockdown, have you ever had the sudden urge to start exercising and stay fit? Maybe you can take inspiration from this eight-year-old girl, Pooja Bishnoi. She is one of India’s athletic superstars.
This Mini Milkha Singh has already been engaged in various races and marathons and won accolades. Born in a small village in the Jodhpur region of the western state of Rajasthan, this girl is defying all odds. Pooja has also established a record at the Jodhpur Marathon, wherein she covered a distance of 10 kilometers in a time of 48 minutes.
This is an incredible achievement for someone at such a tender age. Acquiring such a title at such a young age, Pooja says,
“I feel very proud and content to achieve such a feat at the age of seven moreover have worked hard along with my coach to achieve the title. I give all the credits to my coach.”
Global Child Prodigy Awards, the world’s first and only award ceremony recognising unique and talented children, awarded Pooja Bishnoi under the category of sports, in the year 2020. Moreover, she was listed under the Top 100 Prodigies List of 2020!
Pooja plans on participating in the 2024 Olympics and winning a gold medal for the nation. This reflects her commitment and dedication in the most real sense. We do not doubt that India will surely see a gold medal in the 2024 Olympics from Pooja Bishnoi.
In India, often girls and women face tremendous challenges while trying to make it in the world of sports. But Pooja’s energy and perseverance are awing. We have our champion in her, who is a source of inspiration and encouragement to all those girls who wish to pursue sports as a career. Because if she can we can too!
