Sheilah Sheldone, the 11-year-old artist, recently had an exclusive interview with Global Child Prodigy under Prodigy Talks. The renowned Entrepreneur, Educationalist, and Humanitarian, Mr. Kavin Kumar Kandasamy, hosted the talk. He is also the Managing Director of Mangalam Educational Institutions. Mr. Kavin’s institutions serve more than 7000 students every year.
Let’s get to know the motivational story behind Sheilah Sheldone’s success in this interview.
My name is Sheilah Sheldone Charles, and I am 11-years-old. I am from Kenya in Mombasa. My mother, father, and younger brother live with me. I am an artist, a designer, a model, a singer, a public speaker, and an upcoming actress.
When I was 5-years-old, I discovered that I loved art, but I used to do that in school only. When I told my mom that I love art, she said that all children draw these scribbles on their books, but I used to be the best in my art class. My mom was surprised when she saw some of my drawings, and she didn’t believe that I drew it. So, when we came to Mombasa, she asked me to draw her and I did that. After that, she recognized my talent and started supporting me.
I love to design my clothes. When I create my outfits, I love to model them. So that’s how I became a designer. I also love listening to music and singing.
I have two songs of my own: one is called ‘Ringo by Sheilah Sheldone,’ and another one is ‘Corona by Sheilah Sheldone.’ You can find these songs on my YouTube channel, Sheilah Sheldone. Usually, my manager and my mother manage my account. I design almost all the content. Most of my followers are from Kenya, some from Africa and the US.
I went to the US to teach young children of the community school. I taught them how to paint and draw. That’s where I got the award for Youngest Lioness of 2018 from Tese Foundation because I was the youngest girl from Africa who was helping the community.
My mom and I sit together every Sunday and arrange what I will be doing in the upcoming week. We plan things because it is essential to learn how to manage time.
Many people are shocked because they don’t believe that a young girl can do such fantastic work. They don’t think that I make the paintings. Sometimes people are like “No, that’s not you.”
I am proud of all of my talent, but I’m most proud of following my heart. I also feel glad that I can change children’s lives as I inspire them to follow their passion.
Yes, Oprah Winfrey and Ellen De Generes inspired me a lot in helping people. In art, I am inspired by Leonardo da Vinci. In modeling, I am inspired by Tyra Banks and Naomi Campbell.
When I discovered that I was selected for the Global Child prodigy Award, I was pleased. I wanted to be stunning and impressive. I did design the dress that I was wearing at the GCP Award ceremony.
It was an honor to meet other child prodigies. I feel happy that I was among the Top 100 child prodigies of the world. I am also in touch with some of them like Stacey Fru, and DJ Switch.
I want to change the world and make the lives of children more comfortable. I want to become like a superhero who will support children.
I would say that everyone is a child prodigy. A few like me have been discovered. I hope that you will also be found one day. Just keep following your dreams and do whatever you love. It would be best if you always believe that you can.
Thank You, Sheilah Sheldone! You are a fantastic girl. We wish you all the very best for your future.
