Starting a business at the age of 13 is not a usual thing that everyone can do. The 13-year-old boy, Te’Lario Watkins II, has started his business, Tiger Mushroom Farms,’ at such a young age. As it is clear by the name, the company is all about mushroom farming.
In a candid talk with Global Child Prodigy, Te’Lario shares everything about his mushroom business.
When & Why Did Te’Lario Start Mushroom Farming?
Te Lario started mushroom farming when he was just 7-years-old. He developed an interest in farming when he started growing cat grass and basil during his first cub scout meeting. It inspired the young boy to keep growing something during the winter season. After a bit of research, he found out that mushrooms were the perfect thing to grow in the cold and dark. That’s why he started mushroom farming.
In the beginning, he had some issues with getting the right humidity and temperature. It is because different conditions are required for growing different types of mushrooms. So, he contacted a business named ‘Back to the Roots‘ and bought mushroom kits from them.
A Self Sustainable Business | Tiger Mushroom Farms
Te Lario told us that his business, Tiger Mushroom Farms, is self-sustainable. He came up with this name because he was a Tiger scout when he started this mushroom business. So, he got the idea from there.
It takes only two weeks to grow mushrooms. Just the humidity and temperature need to be ensured.
Reaction Of People Towards Tiger Mushroom Farms
Te Lario says that, at first, some people do not believe that a young kid has started a business. But, they start taking an interest and supporting him as soon as they see the child prodigy. His community helps him a lot. A few people at school know about his business. And they like to know that someone from their school has started a business. So they also support him.
Te’Lario’s Future Plans About His Business
Te Lario Watkins II says that he will try to develop a new seasoning for mushrooms. Moreover, he aims to have a warehouse to grow more various types of mushrooms and expand his business. Right now, he is only growing two types of mushrooms, including Shiitake and Oyster mushrooms.
