India celebrates National Science Day every year on February, 28. This day is celebrated to mark an incredible discovery of CV Raman that brought him a Nobel Prize. A lot of people are not much aware of the significance of the day, and its history.

1. Why Do We Celebrate Indian National Science Day?

The national science day in India is celebrated to mark the anniversary of the ‘Ramen Effect’. Raman effect was a remarkable discovery by the great physicist CV Raman. The theory of this effect says, “whenever the light travels through a transparent material, some of the deflected light changes amplitude & wavelength“. Moreover, this discovery won him the Nobel Prize in 1930.

Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman (CV Raman) was an Indian physicist. He was popular for his work in the field of light scattering. With one of his students, KS Krishnan, he discovered the Raman effect, which was an amazing discovery.

2. Significance Of The Day

India celebrates science day every year to raise awareness of the importance of science in our daily lives. It aims to encourage people to implement new technologies for development in the field of science. Moreover, the motive behind celebrating this day is to give an opportunity to the citizens in India who want to make their future in science and to popularize science and technology. 

The science institutes, schools, and colleges across the country celebrate this day by organizing public speeches, lectures and science exhibitions, science movies, etc. Apart from this, students also demonstrate various science projects and innovations across the country. Moreover, the Indian government felicitates scientists who made contributions greatly to the field of science.

3. National Science Day 2021 Theme

The purpose of choosing this theme is raising public awareness & appreciation of the scientific issues involved. It also aims to encourage awareness about the impacts science has on education, skill and work. The theme itself is energetic and encourages the children and youth for a future with education, skills, and work in science.
