When most kids are busy playing games, the 13-year-old boy, Rodrigo Medinilla, is busy learning more & more. He is a multi-talented prodigy whose quest for knowledge has no limits. Rodrigo can be called multi-talented because he is not just a prodigy of mathematics, or linguistics, or biology; he is a prodigy of everything.
Rodrigo is a ‘Mathematics and Spelling Prodigy’ from Miami, Florida. Many people know him as he has been taking part in various competitions over the past few years and has done amazingly well in all of them. Rodrigo studies at the Terra Environmental Research Institute. He is studying the Biomedical program because he aims to become a Surgeon. Rodrigo finds it very interesting, and he enjoys the program.
At the age of just two years, he was perfectly articulating alphabets in both English and Spanish. When he was 2.5-years-old, he could count to 150 and solve simple addition and subtraction. Rodrigo’s mother, Aida, contacted a county psychologist in Florida when she recognized her son’s exceptional skills. At that time, Rodrigo entered Kindergarten. Various counselors’ and educators’ pieces of advice led Aida to Mensa. She had Rodrigo tested by a psychologist, and he received his Mensa membership card at the age of six.
When he was in first grade, he was a young spelling bee and was trying to increase his interest in Linguistics. His extraordinary skills are the answer to how he became a spelling bee. In 2019, Rodrigo won a Spelling Bee competition in his school, and it gave him the opportunity to take part in the Miami Herald Spelling Bee. He participated in that in the same year and won that too. His other victory opened a door for him to participate in the prestigious Scripps National Spelling Bee. There he was among the top 100 most recognized spellers of the entire nation. During that time, BeeTV featured him as one of the most talented kids in the competition.
When Rodrigo was in 6th grade, he wanted to create a language and his own script. The child prodigy loves learning languages and is learning around 11 languages through a language learning app. These languages are Arabic, French, Italian, German, Hindi, Navaho, Catalan, Dothraki (the language of Game of Thrones), etc.
Rodrigo Medinilla won the Global Child Prodigy award in January 2020 for his exceptional skills. His name was also among the Top 100 prodigies of the year.
The Global Child Prodigy is the first and only organization globally to recognize young talents from various backgrounds. The GCP awards list includes children having extreme competency in their field of interest, such as writing, entrepreneurship, painting, modeling, martial art, music, social work, etc. If you know any kid close to you who deserves to be on the next Top 100 Prodigies list, don’t forget to click here.
