Kit Armstrong: An Outstanding Pianist & A Former Prodigy

Kit Armstrong is a multi-talented personality as he is a composer as well as an American classical pianist. He is also a former child prodigy of British-Taiwanese parentage. He has an interest in the fields of science, mathematics, and languages. Born in Los Angeles, this former child prodigy taught himself the musical composition of piano by reading an encyclopedia.

Kit’s Education

Armstrong completed his academic education while pursuing music at the same time. He attended several schools, including Orange County School of the Arts. In addition to this, he was studying music composition at Chapman University and studied physics at the California State university too.
At Utah State University, Kit became a full-time undergraduate student when he was nine years old. At that institution, the subjects that he studied were physics, biology, mathematics, and music.

In 2003, he took admission at the Curtis Institute of Music to study piano. At the same time, he was pursuing chemistry and mathematics from the University of Pennsylvania. The following year, he moved to London to continue his education in music while he was studying mathematics in parallel.

Career of Kit Armstrong

This former prodigy has his career record as a pianist and composer too. At the age of 8, he had his debut with Long Veach Bach Festival Orchestra. For celebrating the 150th anniversary of Steinway and Sons, Kit Armstrong was invited to play the piano. One of the central interest of Kit Armstrong is Chamber Music.
His career as a composer has been at a right pace until now. Currently, his compositions include seven quartets, one symphony, five duos, five concerts, and a lot more.

Awards and Recognition

He has received many awards. Chicken Sonata, one of his works, received the first prize from the Music Teachers’ Association of California. From the same group, he won the first prize again in 2000 for his Five Elements. Not only this, but he has been awarded six Morton Gould Young Composer Awards in New York by ASCAP Foundation.
