Steve Winwood – A Musician To Identify The Taste Of Music Perfectly

Almost every person is known to the word ‘prodigy,’ Right? But they’re not always many personalities with prodigy around us! Here we have come up with an evergreen, perennial, and dynamic personality, Steve Winwood. You may have known him and probably his work too. But the most interesting fact about him is less known, and sometimes we don’t recognize it. Globally, people love enjoying jazz music and pop-rock.

Steve Winwood is among those who identify so perfectly with the taste of music. Wouldn’t it be amazing for a person to be a songwriter, musician, singer, keyboard player, and vocalist? Of course, it would be. This amazing talent of being one in this whole world belongs to Steve Winwood. Let’s have a look at his education, career, and aspects of life.

The early life of Steve Winwood

It was the 12th of May 1948 when the world welcomed Steve Winwood. At an early age, he started playing piano and was interested in Dixieland jazz and swing. Moreover, he began playing guitar and drums very soon. His education began at Great Barr School, and then he attended Birmingham and Midland Institute of Music.

He went there for his skill development as a pianist but not completed the course. He was eight years old when he performed the first time with his father, Lawrence, and elder brother, Muff, in a band.

Steve’s Career life

His career started very early. When he was admitted to the school, he was still part of Birmingham rhythm and blues scenes and played guitar. As time passed, he joined many music groups and bands. This list comprises Eric Clapton and Powerhouse, The Spencer Davis Group and Traffic Blind Faith, and Ginger Baker’s Air Force. It was at the age of 14 when he joined the Spencer Davis group along with Muff. His vocal style and singing voice made everyone to compare him with Ray Charles. Before leaving this group in 1967, Winwood wrote and recorded two of the top hits, i.e., I am a man and Gimme some Lovin.

Join the forces Eric Clapton, a guitarist, as part of the one-off group, Eric Clapton and the Powerhouse. It was the Elektra label for which the songs were recorded.

At the beginning of traffic formation, Winwood had a partnership for song writing with Capaldi. This partnership led the way for many popular songs. It included The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys and Paper Sun. Going to the band’s history, we found that most of their keyboards, guitars, instruments, and lead vocals were performed by Winwood.

An Incredible Musician

In spite of joining many bands, he was also focused on making his career on his own. Many albums and songs were released, like Junction Seven, Nine Lives, Roll With It, Refugees of the Heart, and many more. It was in the year 2008 when he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Berklee College of Music. The recent event of 2020 depicts that he participated in an event which was a tribute to Ginger Baker that took place in London. Ginger Baker was a former band member in Blind Faith who died the previous year. Eric Clapton, Ron Wood, and Roger Waters were the other participants.

Steve Winwood is a personality of multi-talent. His aspect of life teaches everyone how one can utilize their skill and talent to build a successful career. One has only to identify it, and one must be focused on the things which makes you happy to do.
