One of the most influential singers in India, Lata Mangeshkar Ji, has said goodbye to the world today, i.e, on February 6, 2022, and the musical world is left with an empty space that can not be recovered. Popularly known as ‘Queen of Melody,’ she won millions of hearts with her golden voice ever since she started her singing career till now. It is no doubt that she was a legend, but only a few of us are aware of the fact that she was a child prodigy as well. Today, on this unfortunate event of the demise of Lata Mangeshkar Ji, Team GCP wants to put a limelight on the early life of this greatest singer.
Lata Mangeshkar Ji was born on September 28, 1929, in the Indore district of Madhya Pradesh, India. She was from a family with a strong musical background as her father was a musician as well as a theatre actor. At the time of birth, Lata Ji was named ‘Hema Mangeshkar,’ but later her father renamed her as ‘Lata,’ inspired by a character in his plays. She started learning music from her father and worked as an actress in his musical plays when she was just 5-years-old. But unfortunately, her father died in 1942 due to heart disease. After her father’s death, one of their close family friends took care of their family and also helped Lata Ji start her singing career.
As discussed above, Lata Mangeshkar Ji started taking music lessons from her father at a very young age and plays in his musical plays as well. In 1942, when Lata Ji was just 13-years-old, she recorded her first song for a Marathi movie, but that song was unfortunately never released as it was taken down from the movie. In the same year, she played a small role in another Marathi movie and recorded her second song.
After that, in 1943, Lata Ji recorded her first Hindi song and this is how her talent was shown to the world at a very early age. She moved to Mumbai in 1945 and spent most of her life there. The great singer, Lata Ji, started getting popular for her melodious voice and recorded songs in over sixty-three languages. She also received many honors, including Padma Bhushan, Bharat Ratna, Dadasaheb Phalke Award, etc, for her exceptional voice.
Lata Mangeshkar Ji will always remain an idol for all the youngsters who look forward to having a career in the musical industry. She is a perfect example showing that giving up in hard situations is never a good idea. Lata Ji didn’t stop taking her singing career forward even after the heartbreaking event of her father’s death and became one of the most popular singers in her country. The great lady will always remain in our hearts and will keep inspiring every aspiring singer. All of us at Team GCPA pay a warm tribute to Lata Ji and send healing prayers to her close ones.
