Francisco Javier started a path when he was only seven years old that would make him a champion for the environment and the voice of many children in Colombia and South America. Francisco became an activist with his family because he loved animals and his country had a lot of different kinds of plants and animals. He had no idea that this one idea would spark a movement called “Guardians for Life,” which would bring together hundreds of young people to fight climate change and protect all kinds of life.

A Journey of Protest and Activism
Since 2019, Francisco Javier and his friends have marched from his house to the mayor’s office every Friday to make their calls for action on climate change heard. With a megaphone and unwavering resolve, they urged lawmakers to put policies that protected the environment and upheld the sacredness of life at the top of their list of priorities. Francisco took his activism to a whole new level when he spoke in front of the Congress of the Republic of Colombia, making history as the first kid to do so. There, he passionately pushed for laws against fracking, single-use plastics, and animal testing.
Getting through Hard Times with Resilience
Francisco Javier stayed committed to making change even though he faced many problems and threats because of his activity. As a kid activist for the environment in Colombia, which is one of the most dangerous places for environmentalists, Francisco faced the dangers head-on because he was sure that his cause was important and needed to be taken care of right away. He fought against the fact that kids’ views were not heard in places where decisions were being made. He wanted to give his peers more power and question the status quo. Francisco turned problems into chances by being strong and determined. He became a symbol of hope for kids all over the world.
Inspiring the next generation
At the heart of Francisco’s journey is a strong desire to encourage and give other kids the tools they need to make a difference in their communities. He has gone to more than two hundred schools in Colombia and Latin America as part of his environmental education and advocacy work to teach kids about climate change and how important it is to protect our world. Francisco shows that, no matter how old you are, you can still make a difference by giving kids a sense of citizenship and giving them a vote.
Honors and Awards
Francisco has won many awards and praise for his unwavering commitment to environmental action. His work has been praised all over the world, from being made an honorary member of the Earth Day group to getting praise from the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. Francisco was named a Goodwill Ambassador of the European Union Delegation in February 2022. This made him an even stronger advocate for protecting the earth and giving young people more power.
