Naoshisa Takato

Early Life

Born in 1993, Shimotsuke, Japan, Judoka Naohisa Takato was first drawn to judo at the young age of 6 and was motivated to pursue it as both his parents had also played it in the past.  By the age of 15, Takato began representing Japan. “From my childhood, it was my dream for judo to be my career and it became my job ever since I was selected for the national team.

When I won the 2009 Cadet World Championships at the time I felt that it was just a small competition, my dream was only of winning world and Olympics gold.” – says Takato in an interview to Inside the Games Blogs. I mean, talk about determination!

He went on to win 2 more World Championships in Budapest (2017) and Baku (2018), making him the current top-ranked judoka in the world in the extra-lightweight division. Now with an Olympic gold under his belt, Takato has proved his prodigy to the whole world and inspired the global youth by his lifelong dedication and determination towards being the best.
