Nimna Hiranya, the 14-year-old math prodigy, recently had an exclusive interview with Global Child Prodigy under Prodigy Talks. The renowned Entrepreneur, Educationalist, and Humanitarian, Mr. Kavin Kumar Kandasamy, hosted the talk. He is also the Managing Director of Mangalam Educational Institutions. Mr. Kavin’s institutions serve more than 7000 students every year.

Tell Us A Little About Yourself
My name is Nimna Hiranya, and I am 14-years-old. I live in Colombo, Srilanka. I am the only child in my family. The meaning of my name, Nimna, is ‘never ending.’
How Did You Become A Math Whiz?
I joined a class of Vedic mathematics at the age of 7 years. I was in third grade at that time. During my learning, I started meditating, and I loved mathematics. I worked hard to improve my knowledge with various exercises of mental math. I met a good teacher, and she always used to teach with joy. So, being relaxed is the secret behind my success.
What Is The Difference Between Normal Math & Vedic Maths?
In ordinary mathematics, we learn addition, subtraction, multiplication, BODMAS, etc. But in Vedic maths, we do calculations by imagining them in our brain. Vedic mathematics is a visual method of doing math.
At What Age Did You Develop An Interest In Mathematics?
I developed an interest in mathematics when I was 7-years-old. I started improving my mathematics skills at that time. Now I am 14-years-old, so it has been six years since I began to love math.
How Did You Reach The Stage Of The Got Talent Show?
We have seen that many people do mathematics on the stages of talent shows. If I participated in the international talent show, I would get a chance to improve my personality. That’s how I went to Srilanka’s Got Talent. I got a lot of love from the audience of Srilanka. Most of the people of Srilanka recognize me whenever they see me on the streets. One of my videos on YouTube got more than 23 million views.
What Are Your Ambitions?
I want to be a good person. My goal is to serve my country at best. Other than that, I want to become an astronomer, a marine biologist, and also a businesswoman. I don’t know exactly what I will choose in my future. I believe that I will achieve my ambitions.
Is There Any Role Model Of You?
Yes, Asha de Vos is my role model. She is a marine biologist from Sri Lanka. I have watched many videos of her, and I love the way she talks.
During The pandemic, Did You Do Anything Interesting?
I didn’t participate in any of the shows during this period. I think that we all should keep ourselves safe and we should stay at home. We should follow the guidelines provided by the WHO.
How Did You Get Interested In Astronomy?
One reason is that I love mathematics, so I like Astronomy too. Also, as I said that I joined a class for Vedic math. My teacher was also very much interested in Astronomy, and she used to tell us about it. She asked me to participate in a workshop. In that workshop, I got to know about galaxies, the universe, telescopes, etc. I loved all these things, and that’s how I developed an interest in Astronomy.
Have You Been Out Of Sri Lanka?
Yes, I participated in mental math competitions, which were held in Singapore and India in 2018. I am willing to participate in a mental math olympiad that was held in Taiwan last year. It was canceled this year due to a pandemic, so I hope it will be organized next year.
What Sort Of Discipline Do You Follow To Keep Yourself On The Edge Of Mathematics?
I am following meditation, and I believe in being relaxed. Then only I can sharply concentrate because we need to be well relaxed to do mental math. I think doing meditation and practicing is the key to success.
How Do You Feel To Be A Global Child Prodigy Awardee?
I want to thank Global Child Prodigy for providing me the honor to get the award. It feels happy to be recognized as one of the Top 100 Child Prodigies of the world. I would also like to congratulate the other kids who won the GCP Award 2020.
Is There Anything You Want To Tell Other Kids?
I would say that be relaxed and joyful always. Do whatever you are interested in. Work hard and be happy.
